I usually hate to post negative comments, but for the safety of my fellow female (and male) world travelers I have to say that, especially recently, STAY AWAY FROM THAILAND!! This is nothing against this blog or writer, I just want people to know to be very careful, especially when traveling alone. Thailand has consistently been in the news for its dangerous conditions, especially with the aggressive military presence. There were over 350 deaths of British tourists between 2011 and 2014 alone, along with hundreds if robberies, passport thefts, and hospitalizations. I am not saying that Thailand is a horrible country by any means. I think it is beautiful and full of wonderful culture, however i don’t want anyone, especially solo female travelers, to blindly believe that Thailand is a safe place to go. Please, before traveling, do your research and be prepared! Sorry again, I don’t mean to be negative or rude, I just want people to know the facts and be safe!

    • Hey Coco! Everyone has their own experiences when traveling, but I’m curious. Have you ever been to Thailand? As with all destinations, I agree you should do your research and avoid any areas that are known for crime. These just seem like facts pulled off the internet, which can sometimes be skewed and misleading. I know countless women who have traveled solo in Thailand without any problems. There are exceptions where crimes have happened, but I would argue that they don’t fairly represent the country as a tourism destination.

Thanks for replying so quickly! And yes, I visited Thailand a few years ago and loved it. However, while visiting Bangkok a man approached me with a knife and stole my bag, which contained my passport and all the cash I had with me (luckily my other cards were tucked away in my jacket so I could access my accounts!) I just figured some statistics would help emphasize travelers’ needs to be wary. Again, I actually adore your blog and have no intention of causing offense. There are beautiful and safe parts of Thailand, but there are many popular touristy parts that actually are quite dangerous! With all the backpacker kidnappings and attacks in the news, I just felt the need to reach out to my fellow globetrotters, so they can be safe in their adventures. xox 🙂

        • Well I totally understand your point if something like that happened to you and I’m so sorry to hear that. Zero offense! I appreciate it when people leave insightful comments. It helps everyone! Thanks for sharing and I’m sure it will help people make well-thought-through decisions.

  2. Hi, I would like to add that Taiwan, Hongkong and Singapore should definitely be on your list as well! They r major cities and very safe for women travellers 🙂 Easy to get around too, with convenient transport systems. I wasnt sure about Thailand… Great blog!

    • I’ve heard wonderful things about each of those destinations. Would love to visit one day! I’ve only made it to the Changi Airport in Singapore- though it was amazing!

Here’s how we spent a weekend in Philadelphia #MarriottHotelsPartner

We were lucky enough to stay at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, located right in the heart of the city! From there, we made sure to see the best the city had to offer families:

🥞 Breakfast at The Pantry (inside the Marriott!)
🖐️ Please Touch Museum
🔔 The Liberty Bell + Independence Hall
🍲 Lunch at Reading Terminal Market
💦 Splash time at Sister Cities Park
🧬 Visit the Franklin Institute
🏮 Chinese Lantern Festival in Franklin Square (annual summer event)

There’s so much for families to do in Philadelphia and being a Marriott Bonvoy member makes it so much more accessible.

From the location to having toddler amenities on-hand and staff who actually understand what traveling with a toddler is like — it’s those small comforts that make a huge difference on family trips.

Thank you for the stay @MarriottHotels!

I wanted to make history come alive for Ollie and what better place than in Philadelphia, USA? #MarriottHotelsPartner

Our stay at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown created the perfect opportunity to really explore the heart of this historical city. From the Liberty Bell to Franklin Square, we really dove into the heart and culture of Philadelphia.

After a day of exploring, we were treated with some of Philadelphia’s finest delicacies at Marriott’s Thirteen Restaurant.

We stayed cool on our trip by bowling a few games at Liberty Lanes, the hotel’s on-site, retro bowling alley. Did I mention there was even an arcade??

And after a long day, we were soothed by the many comforts and amenities Marriott has to offer.

Traveling with little ones isn’t always easy, but being a Marriott Bonvoy member truly
makes it so much smoother.

From comfy cribs already in the room to friendly staff who actually get what traveling with a toddler is like, Marriott Hotels takes so much stress off our trips. It’s the little things that make a big difference when you’re on the go with a little one!

Thank you for the stay @MarriottHotels!
